Worship

The pattern of worship for every New Testament local church is set forth in the Holy Scripture. Under the Old Testament, the people of God were given specific instructions for worship. (Deuteronomy 12, etc) This pattern of Old Testament worship was for the good of God’s people. (Deuteronomy 6:10-15) In sacred worship, they were to do only that which God commanded them to do through His Word. (Numbers 10:1) At Victory Baptist Church, we believe that this principle remains unchanged. Though God has abolished the Old Covenant with its civil and ceremonial laws, (Hebrews 8:13) the New Covenant contains a specified, albeit simpler, pattern of worship.

For this reason, we worship on Sunday, the Lord’s Day. This was the Day on which Jesus communed with His disciples following the resurrection. This occurred on two distinct occasions. (John 20:19-29) We furthermore endeavor to conform the orders of our services to a biblical pattern, including New Testament elements such as singing hymns, psalms, and spiritual songs, (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16) responsive Scripture readings, (1 Thessalonians 5:27) corporate confession of sin, (1 John 1:19) readings of the law, and assurance of pardon from the gospel, (Galatians 2:16) along with the expository preaching and teaching of the Word of God. (Colossians 1:28; 2 Timothy 4:2)

We are convinced that corporate worship must be done within the community of the local church on a weekly basis, barring any providential hindrances. (Hebrews 10:24-25) And furthermore, this time of worship must be personal. We, therefore, do not believe “online church” constitutes true public worship. The fellowship of believers and the ordained means of grace are for the building up of the body and they are to be engaged in accordance with Holy Scripture.
